MSG or Monosodium Glutatmate Side Effects
Monday, September 28th, 2009What is Trichotillomania? Is there a Glutathione Connection?
Saturday, September 26th, 2009In asking the question What is Trichotillomania? it turns out a few of my friends have this. One study says 2-3 in 100 are afflicted with this hair pulling condition.
More importantly, in researching it, turns out there is a glutathione connection. Yep, GSH helps Trich. There is even a study that found it helped about 55%. In this study, the treatment of choice was NAC or N-acetylcysteine.
Here is some more information on it. Chances are you know someone who has it if not two. Maybe this will help. What is Trichotillomania? What Hope, What Help?
If I had a few friends with this and had no clue until I started talking about it, what about you? If your friends are not talking to you, then who do they have?

Ban the Bloat
Thursday, September 24th, 2009Do you have a problem with bloating?
The underlying cause of bloating is a buildup of bacteria that cause odoriferous gasses. The natural reaction to deal with the odor is air fresheners sprayed in the room. Air fresheners are actually pollutants and are harmful to our health.
If you would like to avoid the health implications of using the toxic air fresheners, have two glasses of peppermint tea instead. It should help reduce the bloat, maybe even ban.
Good health to you.
Buergers Disease Treatments and Glutathione
Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009Among the Buergers Disease treatments you can now add boosting your glutathione. Buergers is a Low CG Syndrome disease. Because of the unique characteristics, it could be helped by boosting glutathione levels.
This will be good news for people who live in the Middle East, East and Far East where this is of greatest incidence. Some research indicated India has a high incidence of Burger’s disease.
Of course stopping smoking is the most important aspect of treatment. Glutathione helps with the detoxifying of the cigarette toxins as well.

Perhaps the only way people in other countries will be able to benefit from this information will be through the use of NAC or N-acetylcysteine. Soon in Japan there will be a factory that will be producing the best form of cysteine.

How Safe is Your Shower?
Saturday, September 12th, 2009Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water…..
No, this is not about sharks. It is about unsafe water (if your water is chlorinated). A study compared the risk of exposure to chloroform exposure when showering. Chloroform is the result of chlorine in the shower water that vaporizes and then combines with other chemicals.
The combination of ingestion, inhalation, absorption and ingestion ration resulted in a cancer risk of 4.99 to 17.59 per million for a 10 minute shower and up to almost 65 per million for a 20 min shower.
Here is the study….Estimates of cancer risk from chloroform exposure during showering in Taiwan. from 1998. There are newer studies that continue to look at this. Stronger warnings are being sent out.
You might think these are great odds. However, the person getting cancer will not think so. Further, what if it could be avoided all together? There are a couple of simple and inexpensive things that you can do to protect yourself.

10 Reasons You May be Vitamin D Deficient
Friday, September 11th, 2009
Vitamin d deficiency symptoms can be caused by numerous processes. Here are 10. There are more.
# Inadequate intake of dietary vitamin D (technically it is a group of hormones).
# Inadequate exposure to sunlight.
# Age related decrease sun exposure.
As a result of aging, some starting around age 62 are more likely to stay inside. If going outside and using sun screens, they are more likely to use sunscreens. Patients in nursing homes, unless ambulatory and independent, are rarely taken outside the facility. In the absence of supplementation, these are at risk of vitamin D deficiency symptoms.
# Religious affiliation related decrease sun exposure.
Some, because of religion, totally cover their bodies when in public. This leads to the symptoms of vitamin D deficiency.
# Overuse of sunscreen protection
# Some in an extreme desire to avoid sunburn and subsequently over protect them selves with sun screen. The result is they get little or no benefit from the sunlight on their skin.Diseases and conditions that can limit vitamin D absorption
# Fat malabsorption syndromes>
# Cystic fibrosis
# Liver diseases that impair the absorption of vitamin D from food.
# Inflammatory bowel disease
Those with inflammatory bowel disease or Crohn’s disease and especially those with a small bowel resection are at risk.

Can’t Sleep? Try One of These Three Sleep Aids.
Tuesday, September 8th, 2009Sometimes not being able to sleep is organic in nature. Something in your body could be preventing it. It could be a food that is a stimulant or it could be a lack of sleep chemicals that your body makes.
At other times, it could be psychological and or physical. If you have sleep apnea, your sleep may not be as good as it could be. If you have stress and worries, these could prevent you from sleeping.
Here are three tips to help if the lack of sleep is not for biological reasons.
Relaxation. This comes from Dr. Alex Merklinger back in the 1970’s. Start by imagining that your relaxing your feet. Think about your feet and that for the rest of your sleep time they will be resting. (Think about it using the same words here.)
Then relax your legs. Imagine them laying on the beach or what ever relaxing thing they might do. Next imagine like a wave, the relaxation is taking over your torso. Slowly it works its way up and over flowing down the arms and to the hands. Finally, as the relaxation gets up to your head, you feel each part starting to relax. Mouth, nose, eyes, brain, even your hair starts to relax.
As you do this, like counting sheep, your focus is on relaxation and your letting go of the things in your brain.
Z Tracking Eye Movement. Hop over to Speechmastery.com and on the Stress Reducers for Public Speakers page…Scroll down to the Z Track Eye Movement / EMI subheading.
Once you use this technique, (note: please do it sitting down, preferably alone so people do not think your losing your mind) do this just prior to going to sleep.
On completion (you may feel a bit of a buzz or a bit dizzy) then start imagining going into a real sleep.
Try it, it really works.
Sweet Sleep Word Focus. Think of a word or phrase that you would associate with sweet sleep. It could be a thing like “teddy bears” or it could be a place like “the beach” or it could be a phrase “sitting on the dock on the bay.”
Once you have the word or phrase, lightly pinch the index finger against the thumb on both hands. (I learned this from Dr. Merklinger too.) Take a deep breath and as you exhale, say the word or phrase. As you say the word, imagine being there. As you imagine your body being there, imagine all of your troubles are behind you and you only have that word or place to look forward to.
Good health to you, sleep tight, good night.
